Zoe is a 5-6 year old German Shepherd mix.  She was hit by a car and left for dead when the Dekalb shelter found her.  Her leg was shattered in the accident and ultimately had to be removed in order for her to live with a good quality of life.  Although her recovery was tough in the beginning, she gets along great now.  Shortly after coming to AARF, we learned that Zoe was also heartworm positive.  We have treated her heartworms, and she is now fully recovered.  Zoe was very shy and depressed when we got her from the shelter.  In her foster home, she would shut down in her crate and refuse to come out.  Zoe is now a happy dog that loves her foster family and has bonded with the other dogs in the house.  She rarely goes into her crate at all these days, preferring instead to stay by the side of her foster mom or dad, or playing happily with the other dogs.  Although she may still be just a little shy when she first meets people, she warms up very quickly.  We don't think she was treated very nicely before coming to AARF.  She tends to shy away from loud voices, as if she had been yelled at quite a bit in her former home.  Therefore, she would probably do best in a somewhat calm and quiet home, although she is used to being around well-behaved children over the age of 10.  Zoe is a very loyal dog once she gets to know you, and will make a wonderful pet to a loving family.  If you would like to meet her, please apply for her today!

**In order to help with her transition to a new home, AARF will pay for 3 in-home training sessions with a certified trainer for her new family. We want her happy ending to be the best it can be!**
